50 Shades of Summer - Flying Unicorn

Flying Unicorn's September Kit of the Month :
The end of summer is not a farewell, but an embrace of memories that will live on. That hot sun as you played in the water, and those steamy nights where you may have sipped wine in the yard, enjoying the smell of the bbq as you entertained friends and family . Lazy days by the pool and family vacation time. Sleeping in, as the yellow sun played in the skies of blue to late nights where only the shinning stars above were the light source. From the boldest blues and reds to the muted greens and purples it was 50 Shades of Summer.
Flying Unicorn proudly presents September's Kit of the Month with an ensemble from Melissa Francis Classic Elegance Collection,True Romance from Kaisercraft and 13@rts Faces of Spring.

Not only are we unique in the fact that scrapbooking should be a passion and not an obligation that we have no sign ups but it is first come first serve - Our kits have an Off the Page Project and this month is no different we have included the Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock for your creative pleasure.

Rock Salt Distress Technique - Flying Unicorn

Hello Everyone! I am here today to share with you a rock salt distress technique. There are a few steps involved here but the end result is pretty cool (as seen below on Mr Brolly).

You will need the following products...

Take your die cut chippie and paint it up with gesso, allow to dry (completely!).

Using your Dew Drop Galaxy Gold ink rub it lightly over the chippie, allow to dry.

Spray liberally with your black mist...

Immediately pile with rock salt...

Spray with the black mist again. And now WAIT, wait until it dries, no using a heat gun. Sit back and leave overnight. I made the mistake a few times of trying to tip the salt off too early, bad move, made huge a salty inky mess.
After patiently leaving overnight you will end up with this...Ooooooh!!!

Now you could leave Mr Brolly like this as he does look pretty cool and mottled. At this point though I decided to use a thin coat of crackle paint. After allowing the crackle paint to dry I added a quick dab of the Galaxy Gold dew drop and then a few sprays of the Perfect Copper Perfect Pearls Mist.

My transformed Mr Brolly was then turned into a tag.

Have a wonderful and creative week everyone!

Flying Unicorn - Bohemian Bazaar

Hello Everyone!!

For those of you who were lucky enough to purchase the June Flying Unicorn Kit - Ray of Magic, you would have received a lovely paper mache case in your kit. I managed to hang onto my undecorated case just long enough for the FABULOUS Bohemian Bazaar paper to arrive from Graphic 45. This collection from Graphic 45 is so vibrant and bright, it makes me happy. How could you not smile at something so pretty?

I have two projects to share with you today....

I set about decorating this case for my daughter Lily, yes at six months old she is WAY too young to even think about playing with this. My husband asked if it was for Lily to take her lunch to school in, sheeeesh you do not put lunch in something so pretty, you put jewels, letters and treasures in it, then promptly padlock it and put it on your shelf as a decoration (or perhaps some light use will be allowed - ummmmm eventually).

When is it ok to place a vodka bottle in your daughters bedroom as a decoration? Firstly (and most importantly) when it is empty, cleaned, scrubbed and sterilized and secondly when it is decorated like this!!!

This is the second bottle that I have decorated with Graphic 45 paper, I would like to eventually have at least six. Or maybe I will set myself a goal of having a bottle per new collection, yes great idea!!

Thanks for stopping by, I wish you all a very happy and creative week.
